The Half Shell Aid term for custom built or stock hearing aids refers to
the size of the hearing aid itself only. We carry many different types of circuits, or
electronics; from the basic analog to the high end digital technology,
and they are available from almost any of the major manufacturers. We are well versed

Half-Shell hearing aids are made to the exact shape and size of a person's
ear and in terms of size compared to other In-The-Ear hearing aids the half shell's size is 'medium'.
This size hearing aid costs less than the smaller custom In-The-Ear aids. Half-Shell
hearing aids can be fitted for a wide degree and types of hearing loss. They are
appropriate for hearing losses ranging from mild all the way up to
moderate-to-severe (including high-frequency losses).
We will match the power and frequency of the circuit
that is installed in half shell hearing aids, to a person's specific needs.
That is why there are no output specifications associated with half shell hearing aids,
since they are individually made and the output will vary greatly.
The Half-Shell hearing aids provide a good airtight this 'air tightness' is what allows the user
a higher usable volume level and is a major factor in reducing feedback and whistling problems.
This size of hearing aid is popular amoungst people who want the performance of the stronger In-The-Ear hearing aids, but aren't looking for a larger hearing aid.
These hearing aids always use the size #312 batteries, and the faceplates (the
part that shows) is usually about the size of a nickel. Most of these aids are
vented for help in reducing occlusion (the feeling of 'talking in a
barrel').

It is very easy to make an impression(cast) of your ear... over the years tens of
thousands of our customers have done this. Another option is if you have an
older instrument that fits well, we can use that hearing aid for the impression. Either of
these is necessary for custom-fitted hearing aids. If you have an audiogram (from a hearing test)
it would be very helpful if you provided a copy of it to us, but is not necessary. |
