How do you account for the different volume and tone settings of individual computers in your online hearing test? (Back to Top) In developing the online hearing test, we had to deal with the variability of different computer systems. This is why we tell people to use headsets, not their computer speakers. Headsets are much more universal with predictable results. There is no telling where people might have the volume set on their computers' speakers.
In the instructions for the hearing test, we give you directions on how to set your sound card so the end results will be accurate. We did extensive testing on many different kinds of computers as well and many different brands of headsets. The end result is that we are extremely confident in the accuracy of the results achieved through our online hearing test. We have cross checked them with many customers for whom we have done in-person audio tests on, and with customers who have sent in copies of audiograms done by their local hearing professionals. The online tests completely reflect validation of those results.

If I have had a hearing test done by an audiologist, can I give the results to your company to purchase hearing aids? (Back to Top) Absolutely...many people fax, email, or mail their audiograms to us for recommendation and programming needs. Just so you know, as long as you (or your insurance company or Medicare) pays for a hearing test to be administered, you are entitled to take the results home with you. If you are going to a company who is giving you a free test, chances are they will not give you the results because they don't want you going elsewhere to purchase hearing aids. To help people who have encountered this type of situation, we developed our FREE web-based hearing test. The test delivers results that are typically within a 5dB variance of a professionally administered test. But we do rely upon people giving us the best information possible about their hearing loss which, in turn, helps us do the best job possible for them.

Once I order a hearing aid can I FAX the audiogram to you? (Back to Top) Absolutely. This is exactly how many of our customers handle their orders. Your audiogram gives us the information we need to make good recommendations as well as for accurate setting and programming of a person's hearing aids. Our FAX # is 815-964-8378. If you place an order on the web and do FAX us your audiogram, it wold be a good idea to follow up with an email to us alerting us of the FAX. We'll then get it all put together when we fill the order.

Is it possible to drive to Rockford to have a hearing test done and get fitted for a hearing aid? (Back to Top) Yes, absolutely. We have a full service testing and fitting facility here in Rockford. Actually, we've had people from all over the country come visit us for their purchase of hearing aids. With the huge discounts we offer it more than pays for their travel expenses. It is a good idea to give us a call ahead of time to schedule an appointment. We're open M-F, 8 - 4:30 central time. If you call for an appointment, we'll get it set up at a convenient time for you. We do run a very busy fitting office (we have three dispensers whose full-time job it is to take care of in-person clients) so it's wise to call at least a week beforehand. Incidentally, there is a $150 dispensing fee over the cost of the hearing aids due to the amount of time it requires to conduct a comprehensive test and fit. This includes all testing fees, programming fees, impressions and any follow-up visits over the course of the lifetime of the aids. Thanks for the email. We look forward to seeing you.

I am totally deaf in one ear. How will that work, as normally I don't even have the deaf ear tested? Won't sound travel through the skull to the good ear and give an apparent hearing if the volume is cranked up? (Back to Top) We do not have the capacity to mask sounds (which is what is done in an in-office setting on a professional audiometer) for our online tests. And, yes, in your case you will get a crossover from the opposite side at high dB levels giving you an incorrect reading.
BUT, you already know you have one deaf ear. And most people who have a deaf ear already know it. If you were to order from us, we would certainly be in further, closer communication with you and we'd be finding this information out about you and your hearing loss. Also, to give you further assurance, if you have a deaf ear we wouldn't be fitting you with a hearing aid there, so any inaccurate results would really not come into play.
